I'm so lucky to have somebody who wants me for her very own when all of the over lovers I've had just wanted to take my crown don't come 'round axeing for me I'm not home to a Henry I won't pay your taxes on my head but try my chances with your other lady so I'm sorry, old man, that I gave you a girl but the way things are now, they're taking over your world you just keep on growing fatter as your options grow thin now meet the wives of Anne Boleyn I always knew that my time would come only after all was said and done he thought that he was man enough to kill a queen but my love for life and women lives on don't throw your big money at me I'm not running a hen-house you're back in the habit-box but I'm not home to a headlouse so I'm sorry, old man, that I gave you a girl but the way things are now, they're taking over your world you just keep on growing fatter as your options grow thin now meet the wives of Anne Boleyn

bring on the night bring out the wolf (here comes the night here comes the wolf) lay out the seats prop up the steeple (pray for the empty seats pray for the people) run wolf run wolf run come the hunter with his gun hide wolf hide wolf hide in the pale moonlight do not go gently into that goodnight you know the tale of the wolf's dying tears the hunter he searched in the forests for years he came to a well that would grant his desires he threw in his silver and cried “I will not rest until I've killed a werewolf” run man run man run come the werewolf with his bite hide man hide man hide in the dark of night do not go gently into sleep's embrace the day the beast tore through the fences and every last shot that the hunter fired missed great shining claws tore the gun from out his hands sinking his glistening teeth into tender shoulder and the townsfolk don't know that a werewolf's bite will turn anyone it does not kill so they patch him up and the surgeons wait till he awakes one restless night run wolf run wolf run run for home and find your gun hide wolf hide wolf hide in the untamed wilds with your silver bullet you pierce your heart you threw in your silver coin breaking the water level crushing your tender heart trying to beat the devil your heart beats silver now beating a dying rhythm heaven seems far away die hoping you're forgiven

the night is quiet, but I cannot sleep tomorrow waits, strains at the bars there'll be no harvest, no sow nor reap thoughts dissipate in the gleam of the stars I see the murder streak across the sky and hope that maybe some day one of them will catch me in a pearly eye and land on my windowsill out of the grey I've waited for so long, it seemed odds were against me I'd wait a thousand years for them to come down and meet me I'd be the perfect mate, caught up in a flight of fancy for such crows are men at night, and they are called the Tling-Tsi I see the shape in the backyard flex! tense! stretch! he's preparing to change, and I'm thrilled, though it's strange I slide open the window and he dives in to take me he's so beautiful now and I will do what he'll ask of me
4.
slip yr makeout jeans over yr hips make sure they can see you know y've got cake they'll call it a super- stition, but wait a while soon, lucky in love, they fit like a glove, and you're away drive from the passenger seat your feet on the steering wheel you've carved out your niche in your driver's heart dance into the driveway streetlights of red and white cold night, you're on the make, yr jeans hug your thighs in their rough embrace
5.
run-nin' through your empty mind in a love-drunk haze - will we find it's just a phase? you love me like you're gon-na die I don't claim to know, no, but I don't want to go shower... (must respect unwritten ruling) shower... (mouth agape in gasp and drooling) shower... (underneath a waterfall, and—) shower... (now you think you've got it all, oh) you drag me through these streets of stone though I scream and cry, you alone decide I die let me say my peace at last though you just can’t wait for the chance to show your hate shower… (stand by me, my fire’s still cooling) shower… (how I once defied my schooling) shower… alcohol’s no substitute for water... deign to call me daughter, be still my heart

about

"Home-grown singer-songwriter Page Maitland's newest effort, 'Mythology of Me', continues to show off her writing and arranging chops. The EP also sports quite a list of guest performers, including her fellow indie psych poppers Ryan Holden, alias Ellis Harper, a frequent collaborator on previous releases under her Jezgra label, and Tom Leighton, both of whom she has recently formed a band with by the name of Gugi; local harpist and music tutor Gillian Redmond also appears, as well as singer and flautist Julia Rutten & Caropolitan jane-of-all-trades Arden Cassie.

'The Wives of Anne Boleyn' is our ferocious opening number, with a garage rock arrangement accompanied by a layer of hectic synths, of the sort you may well remember from her previous outings as Mono Nucleus, 'Australian PSIcho' (2019) and 'Websites' (2018). It's followed strongly by the folk ballad "Les Larmes", a rather pessimistic fairytale conveyed by jangly guitar, shimmering synths, and glitchy drums, guest Rutten's vocals intertwining with our leading lady's.

Another highlight, 'Makeout Jeans' is a sensuous sandwich of a song, opening with a harp-based smooth jazz section that launches into a loping jazz piano stride, into which creeps a smooth tonewheel organ sound, all accompanying crisp pop vocals from Rutten. In addition to the sax solo on this track, Cassie supplies a wailing wall of violins on 'Tling-Tsi'.

Columnist Anna Zolvega called 'Australian PSIcho' the pre-apocalyptic sound of the Summer in our January issue last year, and hearing Page and the gang's newest offering I'm prepared to say they've done it again." – Keeanne Mannenough, "The Newcastle Mélange", January 2020
